- Hebrew: דמם - "hum"
- From The Kabbalah Handbook: A Concise Encyclopedia of Terms and Concepts by Gabriella Samuel
"Damam is Hebrew for "hum" and refers to a very quiet humming sound associated with CHOKHMAH CONSCIOUSNESS and prophecy. In 1 Kings 19: 12, where we read of the "fine, still voice" heard by the Prophet Elijah, the Hebrew text specifically uses the word damamah, indicating the humming sound associated with PROPHETIC AWARENESS. Kabbalists have written that damamah is used to attain Chokhmah consciousness. Because of the dominance of the MOTHER LETTER mem (מ), damamah is closely related to the om used in other MEDITATION traditions, such as Hinduism and Buddhism, also designed to alter one's consciousness."
